What’s inside
118 easy Sudoku puzzles with ASL number handshapes
Standard 9×9 Sudoku grids where every digit is a handshape from the American Sign Language numbers. Solving each puzzle means practicing real number handshape recognition.
30-point print with space for annotations
Each puzzle fills about two-thirds of an 8.5 x 11 inch page in 30-point type, with space for your own annotations below. Work through the logic at your own pace.
Expert-validated handshapes
All handshape illustrations are purpose-built using a custom professional sign language font. Validated by several independent, recognized ASL sign language experts, including an expert from Gallaudet University. All signs from the viewer’s perspective.
ASL numbers and alphabet reference charts
Reference charts for both ASL numbers 1-9 and the full ASL alphabet are included.
2 bonus alphabet charts to cut out and share
Viewer's perspective — why it matters
Sign language illustrations are often shown from the side or at angles that help you learn to understand and form the sign. This book shows handshapes from the viewer’s perspective, the way you see them when someone signs to you. Optimized for recognition, not production.
Sudoku instructions and solution strategies
Complete instructions for how Sudoku works, plus strategies for solving puzzles. Useful for both beginners and experienced solvers approaching handshape Sudoku for the first time.
Varying difficulty within the easy range
All puzzles are easy, but the amount of pre-filled cells varies. Start with heavily pre-filled grids and work your way to less guidance as your handshape recognition improves.
Solutions on the following page spread
No flipping to the back of the book. Each solution appears on the page spread immediately following the puzzle.
About The Book
You may know the handshapes for the ASL signs for the numbers 1-9. The challenge is recognizing them at a glance. Sudoku is a natural fit for this: every puzzle forces you to actively reason about each handshape, building the kind of recognition that flashcards and charts cannot match.
118 easy puzzles in 30-point type, each filling two-thirds of a page with room for notes. The handshapes are from a custom professional sign language font, validated by independent experts including an expert from Gallaudet University. All signs from the viewer’s perspective.
Whether you are learning ASL numbers for the first time or looking for a new way to practice, this book gives you structured, self-paced practice that is genuinely enjoyable.
This book is for you if you …
… want a hands-on way to practice reading ASL number handshapes;
… enjoy Sudoku and want a fresh challenge;
… want screen-free practice material for ASL numbers;
… value accurate, expert-validated handshape illustrations;
or
